Welcome!

Thanks for visiting my blog! It's brand new so there's not much here - yet! I hope you'll send me suggestions on things you'd like to discuss as well. What I intend to do here is discuss the latest information on health and weight management. I'll also share with you my own struggles and successes. I've been a "work in progress" for a while, but this all started in June of 2005 when I bought a NordicTrack Treadmill and starting moving, then I joined Weight Watchers, a gym, and a year later I had lost about 125 lbs. What I learned is that you have to EAT in order to lose. I was your classic "skip breakfast, grab something and eat it at my desk for lunch, and then grab something bad for me for dinner" person. My weaknesses are pizza, cheeseburgers and ice cream. And of course, THAT wasn't working. But I've found I don't have to give anything up as long as I keep to normal portions (something the USA has let go the way of the Dodo), and don't have it too often.

Sometimes you have to choose between low calorie and better nutrition (frankly, better nutrition wins out for me). Since health guidelines and recommendations change almost daily, you'll find me posting about new discoveries, new findings, and the latest books, cookbooks, DVDs, gadgets, too.

I have a sucessful tool published already - Diet & Fitness Journal: Your Personal Guide to Optimum Health. It gives you pointers as well as providing a log book for your daily food and fitness accomplishments. After all, studies show when you record your food intake you lose 50% more weight than when you don't. If you're interested in checking it out, I've put links on the right sidebar to Amazon.com and Peter Pauper Press. There's also a companion piece - The Pocket Calorie Counter. And I'm currently working on the Eat Light Recipe Journal, which will let you take your favorite magazine or family recipes and convert them into more healthful versions!
